Class Management

Class Management

This person has the highest level password. It enables them to assign Instructors and gives them access to all the training records. Classes can be created and assigned to each instructor. Most the functions assigned to Instructors can also be performed by the Administrator. This person may be from Plant Management, Human Resources, Training, or other management positions. In smaller shops the Administrator and Instructor may be the same person.

This may be a shift supervisor, lead person, trainer or others. They can enter trainee's names into classes assigned to them and select inch, metric, or both systems of measurement to each person, establish trainee passwords, check records, and so on. An instructor may have more than one class assigned to them by the Administrator, as indicated above. There are no limits to the number of classes or trainees. Since a self paced technique can be used, trainees can be assigned to a class at any time. Likewise, a trainee's records can be exported for archival purposes once they complete the course and they can then be deleted from the class.

A class can consist of one trainee or hundreds as needed. The records of all the students enrolled in an instructor's classes are accessible to them by entering their password and viewing the management screens. The instructor screen, and others, include help files to explain how to use the menu selections as shown below.

Instructor Quick Start

Individuals can be registered in the course from either the Instructor or Administrator screens. For convenience, they can be assigned to a group. These group names might be created by using the shift or department number or even a plant location. Any number of trainees can be entered into a group. A custom ID field is also provided which might be used for an employee number. At the top of many management pages is a FIND function. Searches can be performed for individuals or groups of trainees by selecting their group name, class, or searching by their names or custom ID.

Classes and Passwords:

Once trainees are registered, either in a group or individually, they can be "enrolled" in a class. When enrolling trainees, each trainee can be assigned independently. Beside each trainee name is the "Type" column. The letters correspond to G for Core, I for Inch, and M for Metric.

When the Administrator sets up the class, a user name and password are established for the instructor that they then use to perform all of the class management functions. Each trainee will also have a user name and password they must enter to access their instruction and testing. There are no "seat licenses" since any computer with a current web browser can be used for accessing the courseware. Likewise, there are no "site licenses" since students can access the course from any location.

Instructional Options:

Direct the trainees to read the Work Sheet questions for a module before they sign on to the training web site. This will prepare them to focus on the content they must acquire from the module. These Work Sheets can be graded by the Instructor using the pages on the web site. Once the Work Sheet is correct, the trainee can begin the online test. The answers to all questions are available on the Instructor's pages. Instructor's also have access to all the Trainee records to see how they are progressing.

The recommended technique for developing machinists in-plant is self-paced instruction. It can be administered easily by establishing classes and simply assigning trainees as required. With this concept, every trainee can achieve a perfect score on each test. The 100% approach recommended by MasterTask is the one of the key reasons for the success reported by firms using these courses.

Pretests and Other Functions:

Pre testing can be done with the Student Guide Work Sheets or the online tests. You can select the Modules to be included in your pretest. Further, the "Adapt Test" function available to instructors and administrators can be used to turn questions on or off. Since the questions that appear in the Work Sheets for a trainee are determined by the choices made with the Adapt Test function, these selections provide total control of the pretest. Printing the Work Sheet once will provide a master that can be duplicated for future use.

The Tests can also be turned off with the Activity Status feature leaving just the instruction on. This might be used if you wanted to have a class that was used for informing people about the subject matter but you did not want to test them. For example, other employees and management might wish to learn more about the content, but not the skilled tasks.

Communication Tools:

When entering trainees, the instructor can enter an e-mail address for each person. The instructor can then communicate with individual trainees or the whole class by e-mail. Trainees can also e-mail the instructor, if they wish.

Reports and Monitoring Features:

Class and Student reports can be generated and printed by either the Instructor or Administrator. To learn more about the content of these reports click on the Class Reports section.

Monitoring trainee activity can be done by selecting "Recent Activity" under the "Monitor Students" tab and can be done by either by the Instructor or Administrator. As an Instructor, you can see the most recent activity of each trainee in your class. Since an Administrator has access to all trainees, you can see the most recent activity of each trainee reguardless of the class in which he or she is enrolled.
