If the program is already installed, run the program and as the program is starting up, watch the lower part of the screen. A copyright notice will appear along with the name and version number of the program. The version number will be in the format (major verson).(minor version), for example version 1.1.

If any downloadable updates have been installed, an update version number (example 1.6.1) will also appear. The update version number is to the right of the second period. However, this modified version number may only be displayed for a few seconds before the main program screen appears.

If the program has not yet been installed, look at the label on the installation CD-ROM for the version number. For courses that do not have and installation CD-ROM, look at the lable on the course CD-ROMs for the version number.

    * Note:
  • MCL version 1.6 is an upgrade to the management system only. The Installation CD-ROM is labed "Version 1.5".
  • PMM version 1.1 is an upgrade to the management system and Installation CD-ROM only. The ten lesson CD-ROMS do not have a version number on them.
  • MCM version 1 uses "dongles" (hardware keys) for licensing.

The current program versions (not including downloadable updates) are as follows:

  • MCL: Version 3.0
  • MCM: Version 3.0
  • PMM: Version 2.0

The training programs are not provided with either a fixed or a floating license. They can be installed either way. The decision is made before installation whether to install with a fixed license or floating license.

    * Note:
  • MCL version 1 and MCM version 1 did not have floating license capability.

There are two parts of our training programs which can be networked: the License and the Data files (student records).

On networked computers, a floating license is not required. It is an option. A floating or network license is only useful if:

  • The number of training computers is greater than the number of seats purchased.
  • The training computer are located within different segments of your network.

The Data files can also be networked, however, it is not required regardless of the installation type (floating or fixed license). Having the Data files available on the network provides the following advantages:

  • The Student records are available to any workstation on which the course is installed.
  • Both instructors and students have access to thier appropriate files from these workstations.
  • No need to manage seperate sets of data files--all class and student data is located in one place.
    * Note:
  • MCL version 1 and MCM version 1 did not have floating license capability.

In the back of the Installation Instructions manual, find the Fax-Back form. Fill it out completely and legibly, including the Site Code which appears on your computer screen, and fax it to MasterTask Training Systems. Be sure to include your name and a voice phone number so we can reach you if we have questions.

You may also send us the information by email instead of fax. Be sure that you include all information asked for on the Fax-Back form. Not supplying all required information will delay your request.

The site key will be returned to you by the same means which you used to send us the site code, unless you indicate a different preference.

    * Note:
  • MCL version 1 does not have software license capability.
  • MCM version 1 uses "dongles" (hardware keys) for licensing.

Applies to: MCL, MCM, PMM

You can't install a floating license without restarting the server. It is not a problem to install the server part of the licensing software on the server, then wait until a time of low traffic to restart the server. However, the floating licenses will not be available over the network until the server has been restarted. If the network server cannot be shut down or restarted, fixed licenses must be used.

    * Note:
  • MCL version 1 does not have software license capability.
  • MCM version 1 uses "dongles" (hardware keys) for licensing.

Applies to: MCL v1.5 or greater, MCM v1.5 or greater, PMM v1 or greater

If you are using a Floating License and your server is being replaced, you should make sure you backup the data files from the old server first. Then, on one of the workstations, use the Kill License function to kill the floating license. BE SURE that you write down or record the Kill Code Confirmation number which is displayed. The Kill License procedure is covered in detail in the Installation Manual that came with your training program.

After the new server is in place:

  • Create a shared directory for the license files and the data files. It is suggested that if you are reinstalling more than one of MasterTask's programs, create a single "umbrella" shared directory, then create a subdirectory for each training program.
  • Replace your backed up data files into this directory.
  • Install the floating license server software.
  • Restart the server.

At the first client workstation, we suggest you simply reinstall the client portion of the MasterTask software. Map the remote server drive to a drive letter, then install the program.

Once you have reinstalled the client part of the program, and restarted the workstation, run the MasterTask program. Since the previous license was "killed", the Configure License dialog box should appear. Email or fax to us the Site Code from that workstation, along with the Kill Code number which you got previously. Be sure to include basic contact information such as the name of your organization, your name, and a phone number in case we need to contact you.

When you get back the corresponding Site Key for the new server, enter it into the Configure License dialog at the same workstation from where you got the Site Code which you sent us.

Fixed licenses can be transferred from one computer to another. See your Installation Manual for the procedure.

If the Transfer License procedure cannot be used for any reason, for example if the old computers will be removed before the new ones are available:

  • Use the Kill License procedure on each of the old computers.
  • Record the Kill License confirmation number(s).
  • Install the program(s) on the new computer(s).
  • Send us the new Site Codes along with the Kill License numbers.

After reinstalling a MasterTask program, reinstall the latest available updates for your version of the program.

    * Note:
  • MCL version 1 does not have software license capability.
  • MCM version 1 uses "dongles" (hardware keys) for licensing.
